Bitcoin's renowned icon (₿) is now a teenager as it has been exactly 13 years since the popular cryptocurrency's anonymous founder, Satoshi Nakamoto, shared his idea for the redesigned symbol on the Bitcointalk forum on Feb. 24, 2010.

The redesigned version in the post replaced the older iteration and gave its final form to the symbol.

Satoshi's post included images of the new design in various sizes.

  • "New icons, what do you think? Better than the old one?" the mysterious founder asked the forum users in the post.
  • Before revisions, the Bitcoin logo consisted of very plain "B" and "C" letters at the center of a gold-colored circle.
  • The new version added two vertical strokes to the letter "B" and removed the "C" letter while putting more details into the golden circle itself.
  • The new design was inspired by the Thai baht currency symbol (฿) based on a discussion about Bitcoin's future icon on the forum.
  • It took almost nine months until Bitcoin's icon received its final form in November 2010.
