EU Comission bans TikTok by employees

 


The European Commission has banned the use of TikTok by its employees.

 The organization cited security concerns as the main reason behind the decision.

  • The European Commission's employees have also been told to uninstall the app from their personal devices by March 15, even if it is used for business purposes.
  • The decision has been communicated to the employees today and is effective immediately.
  • Overall, this decision affects around 32,000 employees in the organization.
  • Officials from the EU Commission stated that the decision came after a detailed analysis.
  • The U.S. government is also banning the use of TikTok on all government devices by the end of February 2023, citing security concerns.
  • In January 2020, the U.S. Army banned the use of TikTok for all enlisted.
  • In November 2022, TikTok updated its privacy policy to adapt to EEA, U.K., and Switzerland privacy rules. The change was an attempt to improve its public image regarding privacy in Europe.
