Cloud communications software provider Twilio

Cloud communications software provider Twilio has just announced plans to lay off 17% of its workforce, affecting about 1,500 employees.

The San Francisco-based company conducted a previous round of job cuts in Nov. 2022 that reduced its headcount by 11%.

  • Twilio had 8,992 employees as of Sept. 30, 2022.
  • The company’s CEO, Jeff Lawson, cited a need for restructuring to ensure successful future business outcomes.
  • According to Lawson, Twilio is creating two new business units aimed at cutting costs and improving efficiency company-wide.
  • The job cuts are expected to impact the company’s research and development and general and administrative business units.
  • Affected employees will receive a minimum of 12 weeks of pay plus one additional week of pay for every year they worked at the company.
