The U.S. Energy Department, armed with "new intelligence," now said that the Coronavirus emerged from a laboratory mishap in China, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The department made its judgment with "low confidence," according to people who have read the classified intelligence report recently provided to the White House and members of Congress.

  • The FBI concluded the same in 2021 with "moderate confidence" and still holds the same view that COVID-19 leaked from the Wuhan lab.
    • Four other agencies think the pandemic resulted from a natural transmission.
  • China has denied that COVID-19 leaked from the Wuhan lab and implied it first emerged outside of China
