In a new French-language interview, filmmaker David Fincher provided fresh insight into the cancellation of Netflix's fact-based serial killer drama, "Mindhunter."
Though it was previously reported that Fincher had decided to walk away from the project, the director told Le Journal du Dimanche that the show "didn't attract enough of an audience to justify" Netflix's investment in Season 3.
"Mindhunter" was based on a 1995 true-crime book by Joe Penhall, and chronicled the development of the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit in the 1970s and '80s, as it began producing psychological profiles of serial killers.
- Fincher has remained at Netflix, directing the behind-the-scenes "Citizen Kane" drama "Mank" and the upcoming crime thriller "The Killer."
- "The Killer" hits Netflix on November 10, and stars Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton.
