French-Italian semiconductor manufacturer STMicro is using AI and cloud technologies to design chips.

The company says AI helps accelerate the chip design process to keep up with the continuous demand.

  • Chips are becoming more complex to provide greater functionality and performance.
  • Chip companies are leveraging tailored AI systems to give engineers insight into whether a design experiment will be successful. STMicro is using AI from California-based semiconductor supplier Synopsys.
  • Chip makers rely on the cloud for its immense computing power, which also speeds up the design process. Some cloud providers offer the option to rent a large burst of computing power for a short time.
  • According to Google Cloud, cloud computing can help chip manufacturers by providing high-performance computing for chip design, supply chain intelligence for components and materials, manufacturing operations optimization, and logistics and sales.
