GitHub, GitLab, and GoDaddy are laying off employees

 

According to a report by Fortune, GitHub is laying off around 10% of its 3,000-strong workforce by the end of this year.   Also, GitLab and GoDaddy officially announced they are laying off 7% and 8% of their staff.  GitHub is going fully remote and is closing down all its offices at the end of their respective leases because of low utilization.  To cut operational costs, GitHub is moving laptop refreshes from three to four years and moving to Microsoft Teams for video conferencing.  GitLab CEO Sid Sijbrandji cited companies spending less on software purchases due to the current challenging macroeconomic environment as the reason for layoffs.  GoDaddy's U.S. employees are the most impacted by the layoff affecting multiple levels and every division.
