Clay Bavor, Google Labs division head, is leaving Google to start an AI company with former Salesforce co-CEO Brett Taylor, who left that company last month.
Their AI company is expected to begin in March 2023.
- Bavor was reportedly in charge of Google’s shift from VR to smartphone AR as Apple prepared to do more AR with the iPhone.
- Bavor announced via a Linkedin post that he’s leaving Google after 18 years.
- He led Google’s XR strategy for more than six years.
- According to Google, Bavor’s position will not be filled, and AR efforts will move partly to hardware lead Rick Osterloh.
- As the head of Google’s Labs innovation division, Bavor helped develop the Starline holocabin.
