Meta is launching a paid account verification service similar to Twitter Blue.

The move comes just a few months after Twitter changed from verifying notable accounts to requiring payment for verification.

Meta Verified will cover both Facebook and Instagram and give users the same blue verification mark as celebrities and public figures.

  • The service will start at $11.99 a month, but prices will be higher on mobile due to additional fees charged by Apple and Google app stores.
  • Analysts estimate that the move will add an additional $2B-$3B to Meta's annual revenues.
  • In the first two months of Twitter Blue, 0.2% of all active monthly users of Twitter in the U.S. had purchased the paid tier.
