Microsoft to demo AI in Office apps

Microsoft is preparing to demo new AI integration with Office apps such as Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, sources tell The Verge.

The tech giant has tentatively scheduled a reveal of the plans for March.

  • According to The Verge, Microsoft is integrating OpenAI's new Prometheus AI model and language technology into the productivity apps.
  • Prometheus, which also underpins the AI in Microsoft's new Bing search engine, is based on a next-generation OpenAI model more powerful than ChatGPT.
  • The plans corroborate a previous report by The Information, which said that Microsoft is working to bring GPT text generation abilities to Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and more.
  • For example, it said AI in Outlook could be used to improve search results and suggest replies to emails.
  • In Word, Microsoft is looking into how GPT technology could suggest alternative words and phrases while the user types.
  • Microsoft could expand the capabilities to other applications in the Microsoft 365 Office productivity suite.
