Remote-first cloud computing company Netlify has acquired open-source development provider Gatsby Inc. for an undisclosed cost. 

The aim of the acquisition is to accelerate Netlify’s product roadmap and provide developers with greater flexibility and choice in building composable web experiences. 


  • Netlify’s cloud-based platform is described as a one-stop platform for developers equipped with integrations that connect to an entire ecosystem of developer tools. 
  • According to its website, Netlify’s app platform for modern web development can work with any framework, data source, and tool. 
  • Other notable platform features include collaborative deploy reviews, worry-free deployments, customizable build environments, and automatic deployments. 
  • Gatsby has been regarded as Netlify’s main competitor and specializes in open-source development solutions for building web experiences through Gatsby Framework, Gatsby Data Layer, and Gatsby Cloud. 
  • Netlify will leverage Gatsby’s extensive cloud innovations, including its Valhalla Content Hub, a centralized data layer providing enterprises with an architecture for managing content across various sources.
