Saudi Arabia to send astronauts to ISS

SAUDI ARABIA WILL SEND TWO ASTRONAUTS TO INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION THIS YEAR.

Rayyanah Barnawi will become the first female astronaut from Saudi Arabia this year when she joins male astronaut Ali Al Qarni for a trip to the International Space Station (ISS) in the second quarter of this year.

The space mission is scheduled to launch from the U.S. to the ISS.

  • The Saudi astronauts will join the crew of the AX-2 space mission.
  • According to the Chairman of the Saudi Space Commission (SSC), Abdullah Bin Amer Al-Swaha, Saudi's leadership plans to give unlimited support to the space program.
  • Saudi Arabia will be one of the few countries in the world with two astronauts of the same nationality aboard the ISS at one time.
  • The SSC had previously launched the Saudi Human Spaceflight Program, contributing to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
