Toronto-based AI startup Cohere is looking to raise hundreds of millions of dollars in a funding round that could bring its value to more than $6B.
The AI firm has raised $170M since it launched in 2019.
- Cohere
is marketed as an NLP toolkit and a provider of language models for
developers. The firm is a major competitor of San Francisco-based
OpenAI, which recently launched the ChatGPT service.
- The
startup was founded by former researchers at Alphabet, which has
enabled the AI firm to become a major player in generative AI.
- Cohere has a new dialogue model in the works called Generate
that would rival ChatGPT. This service purports to generate text,
predict outcomes, and answer questions. However, unlike ChatGPT,
Generate would only be available to developers and businesses.
- CEO
Aidan Gomez highlighted that Cohere aims to “stay independent and work
with different cloud providers” rather than taking investments that
require exclusive rights.
