Ukraine is using ammunition faster than donor countries can produce it, warned NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

He said on Monday that the NATO alliance will take steps to prevent the depletion of its own ammunition stockpiles.

  • Stoltenberg told reporters that supplying Ukraine with ammunition is putting NATO defense industries "under strain."
  • He said Ukrainian forces are using ammunition at a rate that is "many times higher than our current production rates."
  • He called for member states to "ramp up new products and invest in our production capacities."
  • Stoltenberg announced that the NATO alliance would raise its targets for ammunition stockpiles to prevent its inventory from being depleted further.
  • He promised that NATO would "step up and sustain" its support for Ukraine and said that the alliance will stand with the war-torn country for "as long as it takes".

  • By November 2022, NATO countries had provided Ukraine with $40B worth of weaponry.
