NBA rights

According to a report from CNBC, NBCUniversal plans to bid on broadcast and streaming NBA rights

NBC was formerly the TV home of the NBA before losing the rights to Disney and Turner Sports in 2002.

  • NBC Sports apparently hopes to secure a package that would bring playoff games exclusively to NBC's broadcast network, along with regular season games on Peacock.
  • CNBC reports that the NBA may require its broadcast partners to make all games available via streaming, in hopes of reaching the largest possible audience.
  • Apple and Amazon are also apparently seeking streaming NBA packages for their own platforms.
  • NBA rights become available once more at the end of the 2024-2025 season; Warner Bros. Discovery and Disney have until April 2024 to make new bids or waive their exclusive negotiation windows.
