Warner Bros. Discovery sued Paramount on Friday for what it said was a breach of its half-billion-dollar exclusivity contract with HBO Max by airing "South Park" on its streaming platform Paramount+.
In addition, the lawsuit cites a $900M deal between the South Park creators and MTV, a subsidiary of Paramount.
Warner claims the deal with MTV was planned "to divert as much of the new 'South Park' content as possible to Paramount+ to boost that nascent streaming platform."
- Almost all "South Park" episodes air first on Comedy Central, owned by Paramount.
- In 2019, Paramount and "South Park" makers sold the streaming rights to HBO Max.
- HBO Max is a unit of Warner Bros. Discovery.
- In March 2021, Paramount launched Paramount+.
