Amazon workers disagree on how to respond to the company's recently announced return-to-work policy.
Many tech and e-commerce firms have struggled to get workers back to the office following the widespread rollout of remote-work policies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Amazon CEO Andy Jassy released a memo on Feb. 17 informing workers that they will be required to return to the office for at least three days a week from May 1.
- A group of workers formed a "Remote Advocacy" Slack channel shortly after the announcement to express their opposition to the decision.
- Approximately 28,000 employees have joined the channel, according to a report by Business Insider.
- A smaller Slack channel called "Think Big" was launched in response to the "Remote Advocacy" channel.
- The Think Big channel has attracted about 750 Amazon employees who support Jassy's return-to-work policy.
- The channel posted a link to an article in the Harvard Business Review that extolls the benefits of office-based work for fostering corporate culture and a common sense of purpose.
