Anthropic raising $300M at $4.1B valuation

 

San Francisco-based AI startup Anthropic is reportedly raising a $300M funding round at a pre-money valuation of $4.1B.   The funding comes in quick succession of its $400M investment led by Google early last month in exchange for a 10% stake.  Led by former OpenAI executives, the firm is focusing on eliminating bias and toxicity from AI models.  It developed its own ChatGPT rival called Claude, which it intends to license to other companies.  Prior to the ongoing funding round, the firm had raised $1.1B in venture funding.  In April 2022, the firm secured a $580M Series B round led by FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried.  The firm was aiming for a $5B valuation at the current round, per sources. Spark Capital is reportedly leading the current funding round.
