Citing security concerns, Google has suspended the Chinese e-commerce app Pinduoduo from its Play store.

The company said malware was discovered in versions of Pinduoduo available outside of its own app store.

  • Google said downloads for the app's Play version remain suspended while the company conducts an investigation.
  • The company is warning all users to uninstall off-store versions of Pinduoduo, the main shopping app from parent company PDD Holdings.
  • In a statement, PDD rejected any claims that its app was “malicious,” calling Google’s allegations “generic and non-conclusive."

  • Meanwhile, PDD's other online shopping app, Temu, remains available to download on Google's app store in the U.S.
  • As of last month, Temu was the most downloaded shopping app on both Android and iOS in the U.S.
