Gwyneth Paltrow appeared in court on Tuesday to face charges relating to a ski accident in 2016.
76-year-old
retired optometrist Terry Sanderson sued the Hollywood actress for
allegedly crashing into him with sufficient force to cause broken ribs
and a concussion.
- Paltrow and
Sanderson's lawyers provided different accounts of the crash at Utah's
Deer Valley ski resort and blamed each other’s clients for the incident.
- Sanderson alleges that the actress collided with him and left him injured on the ground.
- Paltrow's attorney agrees that the collision took place but claims that Sanderson was responsible.
- Sanderson initially sued for $3.1M but has lowered his claim to $300,000 after his first lawsuit was dismissed.
- Paltrow filed a counterclaim that seeks $1 in damages in addition to attorney fees.
- The actress and her children are likely to testify at the trial, which is expected to last for eight days.
- As
per Utah's ski slope laws, a skier downhill has the right of way. Both
Paltrow and Sanderson claim they were farther downhill when they
collided.
