Kraft Heinz's Lunchables are now approved to be served in schools for the first time as part of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)

The two Lunchables approved by NSLP, a federally assisted school meal program, have an upgraded nutrition profile for school kids that adds protein and whole grains, reducing saturated fat and sodium.

The lunches will provide "more wholesome options to students for purchase or through the free school lunch program."

    • The NSLP provides lunch daily to nearly 30 million students in public and nonprofit private schools and residential childcare institutions.
  • Lunchables is also testing adding fruits to products sold in retail stores and recently reduced the salt and oil ingredients in the Lunchables cracker itself.
  • Approved by the NSLP means that the Lunchables will provide "more wholesome options to students for purchase or through the free school lunch program."

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, which oversees the NSLP, has proposed changes to school food guidelines to reduce added sugars and sodium levels in school-provided lunches.
