McDonald's faces criticism from franchisees for the Cardi B and Offset promotion.

The company has recently relied on celebrity-sponsored meals and promotions like the Adult Happy Meal to drive sales.

  • Restaurant owners are concerned about McDonald's collaborating with celebrities without consulting the franchisees. As a result, numerous McDonald's locations are refusing to promote the Cardi B and Offset meal.
  • Owners specifically say that they don't believe the lifestyles and lyrics of Cardi B and Offset are aligned with the values of McDonald's and are concerned that working with the rappers will erode McDonald's family-friendly brand image.
  • As a result of the franchisees' position and actions, McDonald's has been forced to defend its partnership publically, which has provided negative media attention for the brand.
  • The issues also threaten the future of McDonald's "Famour Orders" initiative, which the brand has credited as its largest revenue driver.
    • "Famous Orders" typically includes a handful of celebrity-handpicked menu items in promotional packaging.
