Nintendo will shut down its 3DS and Wii U eShops later today.

As of 5 p.m. Pacific time, all new purchases on the digital storefronts will be disabled, including classic games, digital-only titles, and downloadable content.

  • Nintendo first announced the closures in February 2022, saying they are a part of the "natural life cycle" of products as more consumers migrate to the Switch.
  • The shutdown means digital versions of games for the Wii U, original Wii, DS, 3DS, and other consoles are no longer available.
  • More than 1,000 digital games will disappear, including 450 Wii U games, 600 3DS games, and 530 virtual console titles. Some will only be available as physical copies.
  • Nintendo previously barred consumers from using a credit card to add funds to their eShop accounts.
  • Today is the last day that users are able to redeem download codes. The company will allow users to link wallets until March 2024.
