Podcast listening in 2023 hit a record high, with 42% of the U.S. population having heard a podcast in the last month, finds Edison Research's The Podcast Consumer 2023 report.
The average weekly time spent listening to podcasts has doubled since 2015, going from four minutes twenty-seven seconds to about nine minutes.
On average, U.S. weekly listeners aged 12 and up listened to nine podcasts in the previous week.
- Over half (51%) of respondents aged 35-54 are monthly podcast listeners, while 39% are weekly listeners.
- Nearly half (46%) of monthly listeners don't find podcast ads "intrusive at all."
- The report shows that the household income and education level of monthly podcast listeners is higher than the U.S. population.
