Regulators to launch 3 Amazon probes

 

U.S. regulators are preparing to take action on at least three concurrent investigations into Amazon.  The preparations signal an aggressive wave of litigation against Amazon as the firm continues to struggle with slowing sales growth. Regulators are preparing to take action on at least three probes focusing on Amazon's alleged abuse of its e-commerce dominance and privacy violations. The federal cases would be more challenging for Amazon than the local antitrust suits launched against the company in Washington, D.C., and California. The FTC has avoided launching antitrust suits against Amazon so far because it is focusing on cases it is most likely to win, according to sources cited by Politico. The agency is currently led by Lina Khan, who wrote an academic paper in 2017 identifying Amazon as the model of monopolist organizations that need to be reined in.
