Scream VI is placing people dressed as Ghostface throughout the U.S., which echoes the promotional stunt used by Paramount to promote "Smile.

The advertising tactics have led to numerous 911 calls from regular people who were concerned about individuals dressed as the fictional killer.

The Ghostface Twitter account has been responding to news sightings of the character, further promoting the movie online.

  • The promotion included a placement in Sonoma, the stand-in for the fictional town of Woodsborow, where the original Scream movie takes place.
  • The campaign is not being received well by some considering incidents in 2016 that saw people dressed as clowns stalk numerous people.
  • Scream VI debuted last weekend in theatres. It is the first installment in the series without Neve Campbell due to a pay dispute with the actor.
