Best Buy's staff technology experts will set up virtual hospital rooms inside patients' homes as part of a new deal struck with North Carolina-based Atrium Health.
The electronics retailer and healthcare company have partnered to improve the "care-at-home" experience.
Under the partnership, Best Buy’s Geek Squad will set up technology inside people's homes to monitor their heart rates, blood oxygen, and other vital signs.
- Health care providers will have access to that patient data via a telemedicine hub provided by Best Buy's enterprise remote care management platform, Current Health.
- Atrium will purchase the healthcare technology from Best Buy and rely on Geek Squad to install and retrieve the devices.
- The healthcare system, part of Advocate Health, will also handle the billing and insurance.
Both companies already introduced at-home care programs during the pandemic.
- Atrium launched its "hospital-at-home program" for COVID patients in March 2020 and has expanded it to cover other conditions.
- Best Buy acquired Current Health for nearly $400M in 2021. Since last month, it has been installing virtual care systems at patient homes for hospitals in North Carolina.
