TikTok said it's adding a new feature for creators to charge for access to premium video collections.
Called Series, the program lets select creators post collections of up to 80 videos behind a paywall. The videos are allowed to be up to 20 minutes long each, higher than the 10-minute limit allowed for most other videos.
TikTok said Series will give viewers “a new, longer format to watch their favorite creators and content."
- Because the premium content is behind a paywall, the videos aren't as shareable and won't appear in a user's recommendations.
- Creators are permitted to charge one-time payments of $0.99 to $189.99 to access one collection.
- Upon launch, TikTok said it's letting creators keep all of the revenue generated from Series videos, with the exception of processing and app store fees.
- It hasn't revealed what the revenue split will be once that promotion expires.
The new long-form content could help TikTok further compete against YouTube.
