Spain awards €8M for metaverse

 



The Spanish government decided to boost the amount invested in video games and the metaverse to €8M ($8.51M) to develop the digital creative sector. 

The Spanish Ministry of Culture announced in December 2022 an increase of 700% in the funding for this area in 2022 and 2023.  

  • The plan also includes preserving video games of cultural significance in the National Library of Spain. 
  • The Spanish gaming market reported €1.8M in revenue in 2021.
    • There are around 30 million gamers across Spain. 
    • Spain predicts the market to reach €2.3B  by 2024.
  • In 2022, Novarama, a Barcelona-based company, reported that the Chinese firm Tencent had bought a stake in the Spanish company.
