Twitter has taken legal action after parts of its source code were leaked online.
The microblogging platform issued a subpoena to GitHub on March 24 in a bid to identify the person responsible for the leak.
- A
user known as “FreeSpeechEnthusiast” published parts of Twitter's
source code on GitHub, a widely used repository for open-source
software.
- GitHub removed the code the same day that Twitter issued the subpoena, according to sources cited by CNBC.
- Musk previously said he plans to release the source code used to recommend Tweets on March 31.
- The name “FreeSpeechEnthusiast” appears to be a jab at Musk, who claimed that he was acting in the interests of free speech when he acquired Twitter for $44B last year.
- Musk swiftly began a restructuring process after the acquisition, which included terminating CEO Parag Agrawal and other senior executives.
- Musk was concerned about alienated workers attempting to sabotage Twitter, according to former employees cited by the Financial Times.
