Warner Bros. Discovery is apparently moving forward with plans to drop "HBO" from the title of its flagship streaming service, transitioning to simply "Max."

The new service will combine content from the HBO Max and Discovery+ platforms.

  • According to reports in Bloomberg and The Wrap, some WB Discovery executives fear that the HBO name "turns off many potential subscribers."
  • Publicly, executives have voiced concerns about diluting the value of the HBO brand as a standalone network.
  • The official name, along with more launch details about the service, will be unveiled at a press day on April 12.
