A Lowe's employee went above and beyond the call of duty to help a family with a disabled child.

"It was just kindness that touched us and really meant the world to us," said Jessica Getty, whose son now has parallel bars to help him practice walking.

  • The Getty family recently traveled to a Lowe's home improvement store in Pennsylvania to purchase PVC piping.
  • The family intended to build a device to help William Getty, who suffers from quadriplegic spastic cerebral palsy, learn to walk.
  • Dave Urban, who was working at the Lowe's store when the family arrived, spent half an hour helping them build the device.
  • "Will got up, out of his wheelchair, and grabbed a hold of those bars," said Urban, adding, "I think you saw that courageous smile of his. Sense of pride, it keeps getting me."
