Massachusetts-based content delivery network (CDN) provider Akamai has equipped its Connected Cloud platform with a slew of additional capabilities that facilitate data exchange and enable more content personalization, rights management, and security. Akamai announced the new platform upgrades at NAB 2023 in Las Vegas.
- Akamai debuted Connected Cloud in Feb. 2023 following its $900M acquisition of cloud-hosting provider Linode.
- Connected Cloud is a massively distributed edge and cloud platform for cloud computing, content delivery, and security.
- Among
the new platform features is enhanced support for the Consumer
Technology Association’s CMCD specification, which allows device-based
media players to send playback information to Akamai and other CDNs.
- The
company has expanded use cases to its EdgeWorkers serverless computing
capabilities that are centered on content personalization, rights
management, and security for streaming video and include the following:
- Reduced storage requirements and costs for operators.
- Faster, more flexible deployment of pre-delivery content stitching for live and on-demand video.
- The
ability to track and mitigate video piracy with A/B content
watermarking that adheres to the DASH Industry Forum (DASH-IF)
specification.
