Amazon announced on Wednesday that it would start laying off employees in its cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Amazon plans to axe 27,000 jobs across its divisions as it seeks ways to cut costs amid slowing sales growth and uncertain macroeconomic conditions.
Amazon Web Services chief Adam Selipsky sent an email on Wednesday informing employees in the U.S., Canada, and Costa Rica about the cuts.
- Selipsky pointed to a problematic "macroeconomic climate" as one of the reasons for the layoffs.
- Human resources (HR) head Beth Galetti informed Amazon's HR team that the division would also be subject to layoffs.
- Amazon's HR group was already hit by a round of job cuts that began in November.
