An Australian shepherd has been returned to his owners after going missing in Alaska. The dog, Nanuq, was found over 150 miles away from his home on St. Lawrence Island.
- Nanuq went missing when his owner, Mandy Iworrigan, visited Savoogna, another community on Alaska's St. Lawrence Island.
- About
a month after Nanuq's disappearance people began posting Facebook
pictures of a dog that looked like him in the Wales region on Alaska's
west coast.
- Wales is separated from Savoogna by 150 miles of ice over the Bering Strait.
- “I
was like, ‘No freakin’ way! That’s our dog! What is he doing in
Wales?’” said Iworrigan after her father alerted her to the pictures.
- Nanuq was recovered in relatively good health apart from a bite wound on his leg from an unknown animal.
- Iworrigan filmed her reunion with Nanuq after he was flown back to Savoonga.
