Apple to open first India stores

Apple announced the opening dates of its first retail stores in India.

An Apple BKC store in Mumbai will open on April 18, followed by an Apple Saket store in Delhi on April 20.

  • The stores mark Apple's first brick-and-mortar retail presence in India after it introduced its online store there in September 2020.
  • The BKC store — a reference to its site in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex — spans 22,000 square feet, while the Delhi store is smaller at 10,000 square feet.
  • To celebrate the openings, Apple is offering special wallpapers for iPhones, iPads, and Macs and special Apple Music playlists featuring the "sounds of Mumbai and Delhi."
  • Apple's expansion into India hinges on its growth potential. In India, most smartphones sold are under $250, but Apple saw an 18% increase in Indian iPhone sales during Q4 2022 over the previous quarter.
  • Apple is also shifting more iPhone‌ production to India as it seeks to diversify its supply chain and reduce its dependency on China. Apple could produce up to 25% of all iPhones in India by 2025, according to a JP Morgan analyst report.
