Athletic Brewing will match the first $100,000 donated to the Michael Jackson Foundation (MJF) for Brewing & Distilling's second annual fundraising campaign.
The
MJF for Brewing & Distilling provides scholarship funds for Black,
Indigenous, and People of Color to further their education in brewing
and distilling.
- The organization has
awarded scholarships to 29 individuals in its first three years who have
either begun or advanced their careers in the beer and spirits
industries.
- Scholarship recipients have prominent roles at
breweries, including Russian River, Aeronaut, and Notch, and some have
founded their own companies.
- The next round of scholarships will be awarded in June.
- Athletic
Brewing CEO Bill Shufelt said supporting education and career
advancement opportunities are critical to building a more inclusive
community in the brewing industry.
- Athletic Brewing will match
all corporate and individual donations made to the MJF through May 8 in
partnership with media sponsor ProBrewer.
- Only
8.2% of brewers in the industry are people of color, according to the
Brewers Association's 2018 Brewery Operations Benchmarking Survey.
