Biden's new campaign manager

U.S. President Joe Biden plans to appoint senior White House advisor Julie Chavez Rodriguez as his reelection campaign manager

The decision, which has yet to be finalized, may be announced on Tuesday, when Biden is expected to launch his re-election bid, reports CBS citing people familiar with the matter.

  • Rodriguez has served as director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs since Biden's presidency began.
  • She was named senior adviser and assistant to the president in June.
  • Rodriguez is the granddaughter of California labor leader and civil rights activist Cesar Chavez, who Biden honored with a prominently displayed bust in the Oval Office.
  • If she is chosen by Biden, Rodriguez will run his campaign's day-to-day operations from its headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, or Philadelphia.
  • Strategic decision-making would remain with a group of senior aides that includes former chief of staff Ron Klain and senior advisor Anita Dunn.
  • "At the end of the day, it'll be Anita running the show," said one of the sources cited by CBS.
  • Biden is expected to announce his re-election bid on the four-year anniversary of the launch of his 2020 campaign this Tuesday.
  • He will compete with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Marianne Williamson for the Democratic nomination.
  • Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination in November.
