Billionaire Elon Musk threatened to sue Microsoft over its use of Twitter data.

Musk, Twitter's owner and CEO, issued the threat as Microsoft winds down support for the social media platform on its corporate advertising platform.

  • Musk said in a tweet on Wednesday that Microsoft "trained illegally using Twitter data. Lawsuit time."
  • The message was posted in response to an earlier tweet announcing that Microsoft would drop Twitter from its corporate advertising platform.
  • Microsoft's decision will prevent Twitter users from accessing their accounts through Microsoft's social management tool.
  • Musk said in another tweet that he was "open to ideas," to keep working with Microsoft.
  • However, he added that "ripping off the Twitter database, demonetizing it (removing ads) and then selling our data to others isn't a winning solution."
  • Microsoft announced on its website that it would "no longer support Twitter," on its advertising platform from April 25.
  • The announcement came after Twitter revealed that it would charge users of its API, including Microsoft, $42,000 per month.
