Pinterest has announced new safety measures to protect minors.
The new measures will include a more thorough age verification process and parental controls on accounts for those under 18.
- Meta
and TikTok have already made safety a major priority. This has
increased the problems for Pinterest, attracting minors who can not get
accounts on traditional social media platforms.
- Meta released
updates prioritizing age-appropriate advertising experiences for teen
users, while TikTok announced a one-hour screen-time limit for users
under 18 and new parental control features.
- Pinterest will also
bring back messaging for teenagers with accounts to capitalize on
increased youth presence but will do so with additional consent
requirements.
- Other safety measures introduced by Pinterest
include allowing parents and guardians to require a passcode to change
some account settings for users under 18.
