Tencent Cloud, China’s second-largest cloud provider, announced on WeChat that its self-developed ‘Canghai’ video transcoding chip is now being mass-produced and supports use cases for cloud gaming and live video streaming.
The tech giant claims it has already produced “tens of thousands of chips.”

to its post on WeChat, the Cangai chips can enhance picture quality
while reducing the costs and delays associated with video encoding and
decoding.
- The
Cangai chips purport to carry out high-precision motion search,
full-rate distortion optimization, and high-efficiency adaptive
quantization and can integrate Tencent Cloud software.
- The company claims its chips meet the requirements of high throughput, low latency, and real-time performance.
- U.S. sanctions have prompted Chinese companies to develop custom chips for China to launch its own semiconductor industry.
