Facebook parent Meta has open-sourced Animated Drawings, its project that lets users animate their own drawings and sketches.

Meta's Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team created the project, which was launched as a web tool in 2021.

  • To create animated sketches, users select a demo figure or upload their own doodle, which is limited to an individual human-like character.
  • They then must change the size of the capture box of the sketch and adjust the joint positions.
  • The four categories of animations are limited to dance, funny, jumping, and walking.
  • Meta also asks users to sign a consent form to use their sketches for AI training, though it's not required to use Animated Drawings.
