HBO Potter series

J.K Rowling

Bloomberg reports that Warner Bros. Discovery is nearing a deal to produce a new "Harry Potter" TV series for HBO Max.

Each season of the show will be based on one of the seven novels in author J.K. Rowling's iconic YA series.

  • The new "Potter" series will apparently be at the center of an overall streaming strategy that will formally roll out next week.
  • Next week's launch event will also provide more information about the new joint HBO Max/Discovery+ streaming service, known simply as "Max."
  • Warner Bros. previously adapted the "Potter" books into a popular series of 8 films, which has since inspired a stage play, theme park attractions, and a spinoff movie series.
  • Author Rowling -- a controversial figure due to her online comments about the trans community -- will apparently be a part of the TV series, but her specific role remains unclear.
