In a recent blog post, Microsoft explains why it does not publish Windows 365 Cloud PC performance metrics

This issue has arisen from confusion surrounding Microsoft's price tiers, which do not outline the specific performance levels a user should expect.

  • In a company blog post published on April 5, Microsoft's Senior Product Manager for Windows 365 Cloud PC / Azure Virtual Desktop, Ron Martinsen, explains that it is "impossible to get repeatable data in an environment that reflects the reality of what users will be using," and highlights a significant number of variables involved while calculating Cloud PC performance metrics.
  • These variables include network latency due to variable traffic loads, disk controller caching, memory optimization that depends on the startup order of applications, and others.
  • According to Martinsen, performance testing in the cloud presents an even greater challenge since it places the variables and complexities into an environment where the host compute is running on a cluster, which further exacerbates the variables, thus making isolation impossible to achieve.
