New Canadian streaming law

 

Canada's Online Streaming Act has officially gone into effect.  Streaming services -- including Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ -- will now be regulated and overseen in a manner similar to the country's broadcast and cable networks. International streamers will now be required to hit quotas for supporting original, native Canadian productions. The bill has both received final approval from the country's Senate, and received royal assent. The bill was introduced with support from the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; YouTube was among the streamers that spoke out against the proposal.
