Phoenix's men's and women's professional basketball teams plan to move away from cable TV and regional sports networks.
Through a new deal with Gray Television, both the NBA's Phoenix Suns and the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury games will air on local broadcast networks for the remainder of the season.
- The teams also signed a deal with video technology company Kiswe to launch a direct-to-consumer streaming service.
- The deal comes during an existential crisis for regional cable sports networks, which have lost much of their viewership and revenue due to cord cutting.
- Suns games were previously available through the Bally Sports Arizona channel; owner Diamond Sports Group filed for bankruptcy protection in March.
- Bally Sports Arizona remains the home for the NHL's Arizona Coyotes and Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks.
