Tesla lowers prices again

Tesla once again lowered the prices of its electric vehicles in the U.S., with cuts ranging from 2% to 6%, depending on the model.

It's the second wide-ranging price reduction to Tesla's full lineup this year after earlier cuts in January.

  • In the latest round, Tesla slashed the price of its pricier Model S and Model X by $5,000, to $84,990 and $94,990, respectively.
  • The Model 3 sedan and Model Y SUV were lowered by $1,000 and $2,000, with new base prices of $41,990 and $49,990.
  • Tesla is also now taking orders for a less expensive Model Y that starts at under $50,000.
  • The price cuts have enabled some U.S. buyers to qualify for a $7,500 federal government tax credit for EV purchases.
  • However, the IRS will soon apply stricter battery requirements for the EV tax credits.
  • According to Tesla, its most affordable EV, the Model 3 RWD, will see its credit reduced to $3,750 when the new rules take effect on April 18.
