Google will make the WebGPU API a default feature in Chrome 113, the latest version of its web browser due out later this month.
WebGPU gives web applications greater access to local graphics card
capabilities. Games and graphics will potentially see a boost on Chrome
browsers using the graphics card.
- WebGPU allows developers to achieve advanced graphics with less code.
- The new API also improves machine learning model inferences by more than three times, providing a potential boost to machine learning applications, such as Google Meet's AI background feature.
- WebGPU
will work with Windows PCs supporting Direct3D 12, as well as MacOS,
Linux, Android, and ChromeOS devices supporting Vulkan.
- Support for Firefox and Safari is also coming soon.
