Violence resumed in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum on Tuesday after a ceasefire collapsed.

Thousands of citizens have fled the capital city, and foreign nations are attempting to evacuate their citizens as violence continues.

  • Fighting between the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group began on Saturday.
  • RSF fighters have reportedly set up positions throughout the city.
  • Military jets have been launching airstrikes on areas held by the MSF.
  • According to a local medical group, 174 civilians have been killed in Khartoum, while the UN estimates that around 1,800 have been wounded.
  • The EU said that its ambassador to Sudan was assaulted by "armed men wearing military fatigues" at his home in Khartoum.
  • The violence stems from a power struggle between General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who is Sudan's de factor ruler and commands the army, and his deputy leader, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, who controls the RSF.
