Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. is reportedly nearing a deal for an online Harry Potter series.
The entertainment giant intends for the series to serve as a linchpin
for its soon-to-be-announced streaming strategy, reports Bloomberg,
citing people familiar with the matter.
- Each episode of the proposed show would be based on one of the seven books in JK Rowling’s young-adult series.
- The fictional world has yet to be adapted into a series despite serving as the basis for video game franchises, eight films, a theatrical production, and a theme park.
- Rowling
would play a role in the show's development to ensure it remains true
to her fictional world, but she would not be involved in day-to-day
operations.
- Warner Bros., which controls HBO Max and
Discovery+, is expected to announce a new streaming strategy that will
produce original content based on well-known stories and characters.
- CEO David Zaslav plans to pivot Warner Bros. toward a strategy with a strong focus on the quality rather than the quantity of the content it produces.
